| The human resources manager
The role of the Human Resources is to ensure that the appropriate staff are provided to all sections of the business and that they are fully resourced to achieve their desired production outcomes.
This could be in the form of employees who are capable of much more that they are being utilised for in their current roles. The development of human potential to identify future leaders is critical to the success of the business. There is also an up-skilling component to a skills waste, the question must be asked: Has the full potential of existing staff been maximised? This should occur prior to the expensive and time consuming process of recruitment. Waiting is a waste that Human Resources can identify in order to structure time in conjunction with the Production Manager, so employees are not waiting for something to do and can use their skills to facilitate value adding activities. If a defect is produced Human Resources should be made aware and investigate the possibility that staff responsible have perhaps not received adequate training to ensure a defect free outcome. The Human Resources Manager will focus on identifying the wastes in the workforce. Three group members will take on the role of the Manager, each using one of the categories of waste to identify possible wastage in the process. The three waste categories for this sector are: Skills and abilities Waiting Defects As a group member you will first follow the various links on the waste category in order to come back to your other group members to report on your findings: Describe the waste What are some examples of it? Can it impact other departments, if so, how? Group members will then discuss the waste from your research and brainstorm any of these wastes in your department. Once you have found a waste in your department, give a report on the waste, the type of waste, the impact on the business and the impact if any on other departments of the company. You can report it in terms of effort, time or financial impact. Make a suggestion for a potential solution. As each waste is identified and analyzed the team must then review what impact it has on other sections. It is clear that if the correct people are not recruited in the first instance then this has an impact on all areas of production. From production to maintenance the right person in the right job is essential and when the people are recruited who are not best suited then the wastes begin to accumulate and the business suffers. The impact of staff attrition rates also falls under the realm of responsibility of human resources and staff welfare is critical component in waste minimization. The Links below are provided to your group to ensure that you have tools to conduct such an analysis and assist in the identification process.
